Mercury  Bay Area School Senior Boys topping the table

The MBAS Senior Boys football team travelled to Morrinsville to play their unbeaten first 11. After going into the break at 0-0, a mistake at the back due to great pressing by us resulted in Curtis Treherne being one on one with their goalkeeper and slotting it calmly past him. With 10 minutes to go, Ben Collins played a wide ball to Charlie Bahr who turned and brilliantly put Curtis through to once again beat the keeper with a goal that would be an early contender for ‘goal of the year’. The final score was 2-0, meaning MBAS are topping the table after the first round of games.

Mercury Bay Junior Boys Bounce Back with 8-1 Victory

By Taddy Ito

This team returned to winning ways in spectacular fashion over the weekend, hosting the Hamilton Boys’ High School Silver team and walking away with a resounding 8-1 victory.

After enduring a tough run with losses in their last three outings, the Mercury Bay squad turned things around.

The second half was a one-sided affair with a barrage of goals from Cooper, Alfie, Zeke, and Reef.

It was a fantastic, cohesive team effort from the entire squad. Kayleb, Trym, Alfie, Tylar, Jesse, Luke, Hunter, Zeke, Reef, Mekhi, Cooper, Milan, and Zen all played their part in putting together a brilliant win to get their season back on track.

Mercury Bay Under 13’s

The Stingrays made the trip over the hill to Tairua on a beautiful Saturday morning for a highly anticipated rematch, following a draw in their first meeting of the season.

The ‘Rays piled on the pressure early.  This early dominance paid off the Stingrays finding the back of the net twice. However, Tairua fought back and carried that momentum into the second half, turning the tables to take the lead. The ‘Rays had to dig deep,

They did via some excellent set-piece plays, allowing the ‘Rays to strike back with two goals to reclaim the lead. It was a gritty, hard-fought victory.

Player of the Day: Archer Jowsey – fantastic all-around effort and outstanding encouragement of his teammates.

The Mercury Bay Orcas played the Whenuakite Hawks at Whenaukite today. awarded Player of the Day – Lex Battaerd for setting some great goals up and Jack Fearney was recognized by the Hawks for excellent attacking up front. The Hawks played a great defensive game with some stella goal defence from goalie and the backs.

It was not the result Mercury Bay Marlins was wanting, heading into the business end of the season. But it was a fighting game and they maintained  discipline right to the end. The team put a lot of fight in the last quarter but Waihi had too much of a lead.

It was an incredibly physical game and an awesome crowd
turned out!!

A massive credit goes out to Waihi Athletic who definitely came over with a point to prove. Theirpassing and speed were ahead of Mercury Bay for this game. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

Thank you to our whānau, friends and community for coming down and supporting our boys!!

Next week Mercury Bay Marlins are taking a trip to Waitakaruru.

Junior Girls vs Cambridge

The Junior girls’ squad faced a tough early-morning matchup at Cambridge High School this weekend, ultimately falling to the hosts 6:2.

It was a physical contest from the opening whistle. Cambridge managed to pull away late in the game, handing the Bay squad a valuable lesson in maintaining discipline for the full 70 minutes.

Neela Sacult was named Player of the Day.

The team also sends their best wishes to their captain, who is recovering after sustaining an unfortunate injury during the match.
