The Mercury Bay Area School Senior Boys Football Team is preparing for a memorable Tournament Week experience as they head to Rotorua to compete in the renowned Trident Tournament.

The Mercury Bay Area School Senior Boys Football team and their families have organised  something great for winter to raise funds for a trip to Rotorua.

At  the end of this month this Senior Boys team from Mercury Bay Area School will compete in the prestigious Trident Tournament held in Rotorua. They will be taking on 32 teams from across the North Island – stretching from Kerikeri all the way down to Wellington.

As easily one of the smallest schools in the competition, Mercury Bay will be going head-to-head with some big schools boasting student rolls of over 2,000. Their pool stage kicks off with matchups against Feilding High School, Onslow College (Wellington), and Kingsway School (Orewa), followed by four placement games.

This marks the first time in recent memory that a Senior Boys team from Mercury Bay has attended Tournament Week. Coach Mark Collins and Manager Marcus Oxenham are well aware of the intense demands ahead playing tournament football with quite a young squad that in fact features six talented Year 10 boys stepping up.

The team is currently second in their division in the WSSFA league, have secured a spot in the knockout cup semi-finals, and recently delivered a dominant victory over the only other Waikato team attending the tournament.

Players involved are Elijah Bianchi, Ben Collins, Arlo Hert, Cale Field, Noah Greenfield, Farai Gray, Tom Lamason, Beau Marshall, Cameron Johansen, Noah Palmer, Curtis Treherne, Milan Evans, Hyodo Taniguchi, Charlie Bahr, Lui Yamada and Eliott Ribet.

This fund raiser is to help cover entry costs, transportation, accommodation and food. On Sunday, 23 August the team will be very busy putting together meals that can be picked up in time for an amazing Sunday dinner.

Pre-sales only for Hangi Dinner – This is for planning purposes. Included in each meal pack are 3 meats, potato, kumara, cabbage, pumpkin, stuffing, pudding and custard. The cost is $25 each meal. It must be picked up from 5.00 pm.

If you would like to purchase some meals, please deposit $25 per meal to 03-1578-0089624-00 with a surname in the particulars. If there are any issues or questions, please contact Mark at collinsm@mbas.ac.nz.

Any other assistance, sponsorship, or donations of ingredients would also be deeply appreciated.
