Last week, a squad of 30 Year 7 and 8 students attended the Coast to Coast Sports Camp at Tōtara Springs in Matamata. Competing against nine other schools from the Auckland and Waikato regions, our team faced a wide and varied range of sports – from traditional staples like Netball, Touch Rugby, and Football, to unique events like Cage Soccer, Wallball, and European Handball.

It was an action-packed week, with events kicking off on Monday afternoon and running late into the evening each day. We started strong on Monday, taking out 1st place in Cage Soccer and securing 2nd place in Athletics. Tuesday and Wednesday were filled with a packed round-robin schedule across multiple sports, along with an early morning Cross Country and a late afternoon Triathlon on Wednesday.
Wednesday evening brought the excitement of the semi-final draw, with our team qualifying for the semis in Softball, Football, Boys’ Tag, and Indoor Hockey. On semi-final day, our Softball and Football teams fought in two nail-biting matches that came down to the very last play. While we narrowly missed out on the finals, the team walked away with valuable tournament experience and key learnings for the future.
On Thursday night, the squad brought fantastic energy as they performed their cheer in front of all the participating schools.
Overall, Sports Camp was an amazing experience where our students demonstrated outstanding team spirit and sportsmanship. A huge thank you to our parent helpers, Jody Brower and Hayley Goodall, our dance teacher Megan, and staff members Miss McCleery and Mr Taogaga for making this trip possible!
