Sharks vs Tairua Turbos
The MBAS Senior Boys football team hosted Hamilton Boys High School Maroon on Saturday. After a tight tussle early on we scored twice before halftime to take a 2-0 lead into the break. The second half was much the same as the first with our speed and skill being a bit much for the visitors, scoring three more unanswered goals. Special mention to our defence who have kept four clean sheets in a row and our tireless midfield who fight for every ball. Goal scorers were Noah Palmer (2), Lui Yamada, Ben Collins and an unfortunate own goal.
Mercury Bay U13 Stingrays
The Ray’s made the trip over the hill to Kuaotunu to play Te Rerenga on Saturday. The two teams were quite evenly matched throughout the first half, trading attacking plays and both finding the back of the net. The game opened up in the second half with the ‘Rays putting together some clinical attacking play, mixed together with slick passing, causing issues for the Te Rerenga defense.
Player of the day went to Charlee Marr for his improved defensive play, being vocal, and encouraging his team mates.
Mercury Bay Sharks
Mercury Bay Sharks hosted the Tairua Turbos on a bright, sunny winter’s morning and were eager to continue the good form they have shown this season.
The Sharks embraced Coach Carl’s enhanced game plan from the opening whistle, stepping up their style of play and dominating the midfield for large portions of the match. Their strong tackling techniques, combined with excellent communication across the field, allowed them to control possession and keep the Turbos under constant pressure.
The hard work paid off with an outstanding performance from Sarico Chiet, who scored a superb hat-trick. While the forwards took their chances well, the result was built on a genuine team effort, with every player contributing through determination, teamwork, and support for one another.
Tairua Turbos continued to battle hard throughout the game and were rewarded with a goal of their own, but the Sharks’ organisation and control of the midfield proved the difference.
Player of the Day was awarded to Leo Skelton for his exceptional leadership as captain. Leo led by example with his communication, organisation, and encouragement of his teammates, helping the Sharks maintain their structure and intensity throughout the match.
Coach Carl was extremely pleased with the team’s performance, particularly their willingness to embrace new ideas, work together, and play with confidence. The victory was a great reward for the effort and commitment shown by the entire squad.
