A vibrant new chapter for WASBRA! Local residents met the new interim committee and heard plans to re‑establish the association as an Incorporated Society with strong leadership, clear direction and renewed community spirit.

Around 50 ratepayers packed the room at Mercury Bay Club on Saturday afternoon to meet with the new Interim Committee of 4, (introduced below) to set up WASBRA as an Incorporated Society. Chaired by Tony Fox and with Councillor Flemming Rasmussen as the main speaker, the attendees were treated to an inspiring look forward as to what an Incorporated Society will mean for WASBRA, and also the aspirations of our Mercury Bay Councillors and Community Board. The convivial meeting was enjoyed by all.

Stephanie Shaw – a senior paediatric nurse brings strong communication, problem solving, organisational and people skills.  Over the last few months Steph has engaged with the Wharekaho community and  councillors, and taken legal guidance to ensure a fair, transparent and inclusive re-establishment of WASBRA.

Kathy McDowell, daughter of local identity Max Bosselmann, is a Registered Nurse living in Thames who has holidayed here all her life, as have her children and grand-children. Kathy is standing to ensure WASBRA is properly and legally re-constituted and see the pollution and lack of long overdue and much needed lack of services here are addressed.

Tracey Robinson – proudly a 3rd generation bach owner, is Managing Director of a food manufacturing company and brings leadership, strategic planning skills, along with extensive experience working collaboratively with people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Sam Vivian LLB, B.COMM University of Otago 2009 – Head of Project Development, Helios Energy Ltd., brings legal expertise and work experience dealing with stakeholders and councils. Sam has been associated with Simpsons Beach all his life, and feels it is time for a younger generation to step up and ensure our community is well represented in negotiating for essential infrastructure.
