Following in the wake of Anzac Day, the Mercury Bay Community Choir will take to the stage at Whitianga Town Hall on Sunday, 3  May and perform “Songs of War and Peace”, two themes very relevant to our current world.

The concert will feature many well know songs and audience participation is encouraged.

Popular songs include iconic songs from World Wars 1 and 2 including I Didn’t Raise My Bou to be a Soldier, We’ll Meet Again, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boys and more.

Other well-known songs include the protest songs, The Voice and Do you Hear the People Sing? (Les Misérables) and the much-loved Beatles song, Imagine.

Although many songs reflect past and present deeply troubled times, in contrast, other songs will leave the audience uplifted by their message of hope, joy, love, and most of all the desire for peace.

This desire is most powerfully expressed in “Myr Zaraz”, a song written in Ukrainian and featuring only 2 words – PRACE NOW – a mantra for our modern world.

Concert venue: Whitianga Town Hall, 2:00pm Sunday, 3 May.

Adults $15, students $10, children free.

Sumptuous afternoon tea and raffles provided.
