Every Friday Afternoon in Whangamata, golfers gather at The Williamson Course in town for Twylight. Run by local legends Richard, Gay and Will it’s popular. In fact, getting a tee time mid-summer can be tough. It’s a stableford comp with two divisions and several meat packs from New World are the tempting prizes. Williamson is the par three course in town with one par four to start. It’s a perfect course for beginners and time poor and in the summer it’s full of families keen for a change from the beach.
Twylight is one of the few times in Whangamata that men and women come together to play. The two divisions mean anyone can win and the good-natured ribbing carries through to the bar and prize giving. It starts at two and is all over by five with proud winners clutching their meat pack.
