I’m a dairy farmer here in Coroglen these days, but in a previous life I worked in the music industry, spending time in recording studios as a recording engineer and working for record labels. Music has always been a big part of my life, and I’ve always wanted to put on a show at the Coroglen Tavern. This year, we’re finally going to do it.
MONUMENT is a brand-new one-day music festival coming to the Coroglen Tavern on 30 December, bringing together some of New Zealand’s best hip hop and electronic acts for one massive summer party in the Coromandel.
The lineup features Ladi6, David Dallas, CHAII and Team Dynamite, with music running from the moment the gates open at 5pm.
Like plenty of good ideas, MONUMENT started over a few beers with mates. We were talking about how good it would be to have a big summer show at the Tavern again, with a lineup we’d all genuinely want to go and see. At some point the conversation changed from “someone should do it” to “why don’t we do it?”
A few beers probably made the whole thing sound a bit easier than it actually is! But I told enough people about the idea that there was no backing out. MONUMENT started to become a reality.
I’m in my mid-30s now and put together a lineup that I’d want to see myself. Ladi6 and David Dallas are legends of the game, CHAII brings an awesome blend of hip hop and electronic music, and Team Dynamite are going to be unreal live.
We’re treating MONUMENT as a one-day festival rather than just another gig. The plan is for it to feel like one massive, non-stop summer party from the moment you scan your ticket until the last act finishes. It is also really
important that we look after the local community.
We’ve set aside 100 Local Tickets for $75 each, available exclusively as physical tickets from the Coroglen Tavern and Whitianga isite. They’re the cheapest tickets available for MONUMENT and, once those 100 are gone, they’re gone.
