International acts set to wow Whitianga at the Monkey House

A mega talented line up of international acts consisting of Rud Stewart, Mick Harvey and Amanda Acevedo, and Sassafras Bluegrass Band are set to headline and wow Whitianga music lovers at the Monkey House Lounge and Cabaret Bar the first weekend of February.

A mega talented line up of international acts consisting of Rud Stewart, Mick Harvey and Amanda Acevedo, and Sassafras Bluegrass Band are set to headline and wow Whitianga music lovers at the Monkey House Lounge and Cabaret Bar the first weekend of February. Rud Stewart will kick off the weekend fun on Friday night and have you doing double takes as an internationally renowned tribute to the amazing legend that is Rod Stewart himself. Originally from Yorkshire, England Rud has been performing and electrifying audiences with his tribute show worldwide throughout 11 countries for over 18 years covering all of Rod’s greatest hits. Rud is so good in fact, that he even performed at Rod Stewart’s 63rd birthday party in Los Angeles.  

Saturday night the local team at Beatfairy Productions has joined forces with the promotional powerhouse combination of Auckland based Strange News Touring and Wellington’s Meow to proudly present legendary founding member of The Birthday Party and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Mick Harvey. Mr Harvey, who hails from Australia and divides his time between Melbourne and Europe has graced the stages all over the world as an award-winning songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and composer. He has appeared in the Wim Wender’s film “Wings of Desire” which won the director a directorial Palme d’OR at the Cannes Film Festival and has collaborated with numerous high-profile musicians including P.J. Harvey for which Mr. Harvey’ s production work earned him 2011’s prestigious Mercury Prize award for best album of the year for “Let England Shake”. Mr. Harvey will also be performing alongside Mexican songstress and filmmaker Amanda Acevedo in support of their new album “Phantasmagoria in Blue” described as “Lush, sweeping, and emotional in content” The album reimagines and reinterprets songs from artists as varied as Tim Buckley, Silvio Rodriguez, and Pat Benatar. Motte, one of New Zealand’s premier violinists who has performed with Marlon Williams and Tami Neilson will also be performing on the night. With an all-star line-up this is one Saturday night that no music lover should miss.  

Rounding out the weekend Sunday night features the Sassafras Bluegrass Band. Hailing from the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Sassafras has performed for over 20 years including stints at the famed Grand Ole Opry. They will be supported by Whitianga’s own Good Gracious Annie, featuring Mr Alan Rhodes founding member of iconic NZ band, The Hamilton County Bluegrass Band. This will surely be an unforgettable foot stompin’ night.
