Following the success of its inaugural exhibition, Made By Hand is returning to St Andrew’s Church, Albert Street, inviting the community to once again celebrate the remarkable craftsmanship and creativity found throughout Mercury Bay.
The original event exceeded organisers’ expectations, with around 25 individuals and community groups showcasing a diverse range of handcrafted work. Visitors enjoyed displays featuring everything from woodworking and blacksmithing to macramé, soap-making, knitting and needlework.

Organiser Annie Lynch said the exhibition was never intended to be a craft market. Instead, its purpose was to connect people, highlight local talent, and showcase the many skills and creative pursuits thriving in the community. The enthusiastic response from exhibitors and visitors alike confirmed the event’s value and inspired organisers to make it an annual occasion.
This year’s exhibition will be open to the public on Friday 18 September and Saturday 19 September, from 9.30am to 4.00pm each day. Admission is free, although koha is appreciated.
Everyone is welcome to come along, meet local makers, discover new interests, and celebrate the creativity that makes Mercury Bay such a vibrant community.
