Monochrome Lime by Tina Macrae; Eye of the Storm by Annah Stretton.
The Whitianga Photographic Club theme for April was Mystery Colour, with every member receiving a different colour to interpret in their own creative and unique way. The results were wonderfully varied and imaginative.
Guest Judge: Our sincere appreciation goes to Adair Wilson for her generous time, expertise, and thoughtful commentary in judging the entries and selecting both Best in Show and our Photo of the Month.
Best in Show – ‘Monochrome Lime’ by Tina Macrae
Judge’s comments: The image has strong composition and effective use of backlighting, which gives the lime a striking translucent quality. The contrasting curves add visual tension, while the gradual shift from light to dark in the background creates an appealing sense of depth. Honours
Best in Show – ‘Monochrome Lime’ by Tina Macrae
Judge’s comments: “You have made good use of some dramatic lighting on the bird and also the lighter area in the background to create both mood and drama across the scene.” Adair also highlighted the sharp, engaging eye of the bird and praised the background for adding a sense of depth, motion, and overall drama to the scene.
