Art Escape open studios 2024

The 2023 road gods have fulfilled their duty and the Kopu – Hikuia SH25 is boasting a brand-new bridge in the week before Christmas.

We have been thinking positively here in Mercury Bay and our artists, galleries and accommodation providers are ready and waiting for the influx of art lovers.

Inaugural Student Exhibition The year 2023 has inspired some developments within the Art Escape and this year we have introduced the inaugural student exhibition featuring year 11 to 13 design students from Mercury Bay Area School. The significance of nurturing art in our community is of paramount importance for so many reasons. Bringing generations and cultures together to share their language of art is a surefire way of broadening the aspects of all artists, awarding them the opportunity to learn and gain inspiration from each other, no matter what age. Mercury Bay Art Escape offers the opportunity for a Year 12 student to receive mentorship from two member artists of their choice. We are so fortunate to have such well-versed and generous artists in our midst.

Thank you This exhibition couldn’t go ahead without the sponsorship of Stephensons Unichem Pharmacy who printed all the artwork, currently being exhibited at Hot Waves Café until 15 January 2024.

Gala evening Opening with a flourish, the Gala evening on Friday, 1 March will be at Hot Wave Café, Hot Water Beach. We are excited to announce that the talented FLOX will be our keynote speaker. As an aerosol and stencil artist with a fine art degree, FLOX has been making her mark on the inner cityscape of Auckland since 2003. Her trademark native birds, ferns and flowers are a celebration of Aotearoa’s environmental taonga. We are also extremely fortunate to have Sharon O’ Brien from The Wharf Gallery Raglan, as the curator of the exhibition.

Featuring 42 artists from Tairua to Matarangi, Art Escape 2024 will run for the first two weekends in March – Friday, 1 March – Sunday, 3 March and Friday, 8 March – Sunday, 10 March. Our artists’studios will also be open by appointment throughout the year. Visit our website for updated information or to download our free information guide; you can book your tickets to the gala opening on Friday, 1 March on the website or by emailing admin@mercurybayartescape.com.
