“Piri’s Tiki Tour” in Whitianga

04 May 2021

The Mercury Bay Girls XV rugby team were in for a treat on Tuesday afternoon last week when ex-All Black, Piri Weepu, joined them for their training session at Lyon Park in Whitianga.

Piri is at the moment filming the next season of “Piri’s Tiki Tour,” a series of programmes determining whether the rugby legend’s skills on the field are matched by his ability to gather food at various locations around New Zeakland. During his time on the Coromandel, Piri went out on a mussel barge, tried his hand at spearfishing and attended the Coromandel Town Seafood Fest last Saturday.

The production team told The Informer they have heard about the achievements of the MBAS girls rugby players and thought it fitting to include them in one of the programmes.
