A surprise bouquet arrived at Madeline Saunders’ door last Thursday.  The card said she had been nominated to receive Coromandel FM’s monthly ‘Pick of the Bunch’ bouquet.

“It was amazing,” Madeline said. “These beautiful flowers just arrived. “It turns out someone nominated me to CFM.  This is so kind.”

Each month CFM asks for nominations for ‘someone deserving in the community’.

Madeline is well known in Mercury Bay for her generosity and her genuine interest in people. She has been Manager at St Andrew’s Opshop for many years. “I can’t remember how long, but I love it. I love all the staff and all the people who come into the shop,” Madeline says.

As well as being at the Opshop almost every day, Madeline helps with the distribution of Manawa Kai Community Meals from the church on Monday nights, and she rarely misses a Sunday service.

Until recently she was the co-ordinator for the Community Bus, which is no longer operational.

The (anonymous) person who nominated Madeline for the bouquet says, “I think she really deserves recognition.  Madeline does not enjoy good health, some days are very difficult, but she just soldiers on because she loves the work and the people.”

The bouquets are gifted to the community by the Thames florist, ‘Flowers on Pollen’ and the recipients chosen by the CFM team.
