Bring a Teddy to Tairua’s Picnic

As a toddler during World War II, Pat Lee did not have a teddy bear. But as adult she has acquired four of them, now sitting snugly on her bed waiting for the Tairua Teddy Bears’ Picnic she has organised at Pepe Reserve on Saturday, January 27.

Teddy Bear Picnic

As a toddler during World War II, Pat Lee did not have a teddy bear. But as adult she has acquired four of them, now sitting snugly on her bed waiting for the Tairua Teddy Bears’ Picnic she has organised at Pepe Reserve on Saturday, January 27. This fundraiser is from 10am – 2pm and aims to support New Zealand Anglican Mission’s water tank project in Fiji.

“I was at a church teddy bears’ picnic in Christchurch 25 years ago and mentioned that I’d never had a teddy. Then a kind woman gave me a parcel  –  inside was  a teddy bear.  It was eventually  joined by another, plus a couple of Tairua Op Shop teddies,” she explains.

The fundraising picnic idea came to Pat when she was reading a prayer calendar.

Tairua Teddy Bears’ Picnic will include fun games, plus competitions and prizes. It is supported by St Francis Church and Tairua Elim Church will run a sausage sizzle. There is plenty of room to relax at the reserve and enjoy a family picnic (with teddies, of course).

Raising funds for water tanks in Fijian villages

The event is cash only and all donations will help boost the Anglican Missions project.

Pat reckons one gallon of water is about 10 lbs in weight and is a lot to carry, especially for children. She hopes people will support the event so that more water tanks can be supplied and make life easier in Fijian villages.
