Something good from bad speech

 |  The Informer  |

Happy New Year to The Informer. I mean to all those people involved. We really like to read what you are offering and what you publish from others. and we wonder how you are getting through all of this, unhurt.

I do not want to react to all the strong meanings of people’s opinions, at this time.

Expressing one’s own views in a second language is not as easy as it seems but this is my attempt.

I refer the the Letter to the Editor, 9 January 2024 from Elisabeth Resl.

Thank you so much Informer. not to judge or limit the many opinions out there on so-called “Good Speech or Bad Speech”.  There can be good things come from a hateful speech. The person doing that has the guts to express what in her/his opinion is the truth. We all survive with truth.  Truth is what everybody deserves.

Unfortunately, the truth is rare nowadays.

To let everybody express themselves with an opinion gives her/him the chance to show who and what she/he is.

We, the readers, had to deal with E. Resl expressing her opinion.

I am not raising the smallest finger to express my disgust.

Note however, “Who throws the first stone, puts themselves into a dangerous position”. Hate is eating their soul.

I know Jacinda Adern is not just a New Zealand leader. She is a highly respected person worldwide.

Her dealing with the many big crises took its toll on her.

We all should be thankful to have had her as our Prime Minister during the pandemic.

It is upsetting to see Tegg get so much space to spout his globalist propaganda which reads like he’s promoting himself to be a Green Party candidate.

Promotion of sea wall simplistic and parochial

The Informer’s promotion of a seawall for a few coastal properties is simplistic and parochial. It’s as if only Buffalo Beach has coastal hazards when every coastal community has them.

I had heard that the MBASC (largest in NZ) was having their cross-estuary swim from Ferry Landing to the town wharf. So I went along to be among the observers.

We are all equal

Buddy Mikaere’s letter (6 February) is racist and promotes the specialisation of the maori race as a result of the formation of Maori wards. To address some of his extensive comments: The Treaty says we are all equal citizens under the law so why am I denied, because of my ancestors, the right to…

Dear Trevor I sincerely hope you are convalescing sufficiently from your recent and most difficult operation, when you had your tongue removed from your cheek. You obviously severely suffered mentally as you went thru the portal, as your column is actually making sense, which is most unlike your…
