Ratepayers not represented by the Council

 |  The Informer  |

Trevor Ammundsen has got his article in Through The portal’ correct. This Council did not represent the ratepayers, and the next election may show this.

Underhand was an explanatory word for their apartheid actions. The labour government previously attempted to manipulate our democracy and when the electorate showed a disinclination for racism, removed the law that allowed free opinion.

Surely, our elected members must regret being influenced unfairly at a public(?) meeting by a selective stacked public gallery. Having to mitigate the action (motion) is going to cost and needs integrity.

Why is it that the Mayor chairs the Council meetings? There is a long line of previous mayors who have done this incompetently and Len looks like he is following suit.

Well done Trevor for telling it how it is. Thank you to The Informer for the meeting photo. The regional Council also lost its integrity. No sign of the extra costs from a separate electoral roll and two extra councillors.

Sincerely,

Peter H Wood

Buddy Mikaere’s letter (6 February) is racist and promotes the specialisation of the maori race as a result of the formation of Maori wards. To address some of his extensive comments: The Treaty says we are all equal citizens under the law so why am I denied, because of my ancestors, the right to…

TIC – Tongue In Cheek ailment

Dear Trevor I sincerely hope you are convalescing sufficiently from your recent and most difficult operation, when you had your tongue removed from your cheek. You obviously severely suffered mentally as you went thru the portal, as your column is actually making sense, which is most unlike your…

Tairua – removing seedling mangroves from Pepe Stream

My wife recently posted a suggestion to remove seedling mangroves within the Pepe stream on Tairua chitchat. We believed this to be an open forum with reasonable debate and opinions offered. This appears not to be the case. Some abusive replies from a fanatical minority have convinced my wife to …

The Informer’s Through the Portal opinion piece – ‘Local Authorities to act with Integrity’ took a critical stance towards the process TCDC used to establish Māori Wards in our region and has been triggering a flurry of diverse responses. The Mayor got in first with his weekly newsletter accusin…
