I am the proud husband of one of our local Nurse Practitioners. I thought I would take it upon myself to pass this information along to readers.
I really want to highlight the amazing work this team and the Mercury Bay Medical Centre are doing for healthcare in our community.
The Centre now has three Nurse Practitioners: KJ, Cecilia, and Vaida. These clinicians are highly skilled, highly trained, and have an extensive background in healthcare to reach this level of qualification.
The centre has done a great job setting up these roles to make sure our region has access to such high-quality care.
Why This is Great for Mercury Bay
Filling a gap: With GP shortages across the country, our Nurse Practitioners are filling a massive need and providing an outstanding service for our town.
Reliable care: They provide “continuity of care,” which means patients can see a clinician who really knows them and their history.
Always available: You’ll find them working all over the region, including at the new North Clinic and the school clinic. They handle booked appointments, house calls, and urgent care, as well as weekends and on-call work.
Fastest growing sector: Nationally, Nurse Practitioners are the fastest-growing part of the health sector. You can see the data on that here in NZ Medical Journal: Workforce Trends.
This is such a win for our community. It shows that our local medical centre is working hard to secure the future of our healthcare.
