French bubbles and breakfast fundraiser a success

The Golden Girls sang French romantic tunes for the large gathering at the bubbly brunch on Mother’s Day; contralto soloist Jenny Jackman, right. It took place on Mother’s Day at the Mercury Bay Bowling Club, a facility, well lit, spacious and convenient for the large number of people for whom brunch was provided, and the large numbers of tables decorated so extravagantly. DUNDAS STREET RESERVE BEWARE! Do we need this?

Two huge semi-trailers put the boating club up on stilts late January 2023; a profile map of the proposed position of the boating club. The boaties who use and pay for the Marina boat ramp also use this area (mainly at weekends) for parking of cars and trailers. Ask why the Marina is in favour of this proposal therefore losing a large area of the Dundas Street reserve for which their customers have pre-paid.

Many young anglers for Childrens Fishing Tournament and Youth Nationals

Wyatt Watson, with his Mum, Dad and sister, congratulated by the sponsors Hunting and Fishing owners, Alex and Ashleigh in front of the prize worth $10,000!! Hunting and Fishing, newly established in Whitianga, was the naming sponsor and in addition, the tournament also became part of the Youth Nationals Fishing Tournament. The organisers, Tony Croft and Cody Hamilton, working on behalf of the Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club, changed the date to coincide with the New Zealand Sport Fishing Club Youth Nationals. It was a good move.

Over 100 years of fire service honoured Two brothers – two gold stars

National member of parliament, Scott Simpson, centre, was an invited guest for the gold star medal celebrations. There are about 14,000 firefighters in the New Zealand Fire Brigade which has been in operation for about 146 years. When Spida was presented wth his medal, the large gathering of firefighters and distinguished guests from all over the region were reminded by Garry Stanley, Past President of the United Fire Brigade Association of NZ, that there are only 240 firefighters in New Zealand who have received such a medal prior. I wonder if there ever was a presentation to two brothers...
