Use it or lose it!

A Provider’s View Sharon from Coromandel Taxis is one of the Providers of this service. Sharon was enthusiastic about the Connector service and observes that half the people have been locals and the rest are visitors who are taking full advantage of the free transport option between Thames and Coromandel town.

When people take the Connector, they can sit back and relax and enjoy the view.  Sometimes her shuttle is full, which is why she stresses the importance of booking before you travel.

Sharon says that while passengers appreciate the free service, several are surprised that there is no charge and would be prepared to pay a small fare. They see a real value in keeping this service running.

And what do the customers think? Norman travelled in comfort up to Coromandel to visit his great-grandchildren for the day.  Larissa and Cirilo, travellers from Australia and Brazil, were thrilled to be able to catch a shuttle at the Intercity bus stop in Thames, be transported to Coromandel and then book a private transfer with Sharon from Coromandel taxis to their final destination.

Jackie caught the Connector from Thames up to Coromandel. She heard about the service via a post on Social Media and was thrilled to give it a go. Her husband was working up in Coromandel and she could go up and spend the weekend with him without the need to take two cars. She found that Coromandel Town is a great destination for shopping and lunch, especially if you get there by the Connector and don’t have to drive.

Use it or loose it!

The Connector Bus survey results along with the Connector Bus usage statistics will be provided to Waikato Regional Council to help inform any longer-term public transport option decisions.

All the stakeholders emphasise that this is a good thing for the Coromandel community.

For it to be a success, people need to use it! The more the public use the Connector, the more likely it is to be retained when the trial ends.
