Rehearsing for the big end of year dance show performance.

By Pauline Stewart.

I went to a concert rehearsal to take a photo or two. It was early Monday morning. If the way older ones lovingly but firmly teach younger ones of their craft is any indication of the quality of the dance concert to come, then this will be a dazzling, inspiring, exciting, high -value concert.

Now it won’t be that all the time, but many aspects will be. The children and young people are all from the community of Mercury Bay. Concert goers will see elegant ballet, driving tap and funky casual hip hop all with finesse and colour. It’s based around a Musical called, Milly and the Giant Peach. Some of the very tinies might be light on precision, but they will more than compensate with the sheer delight they give the audience.

This concert is presented by Enpointe Dance Studio, owned and led by Lisa Gifford.

Lisa says, “We not only nurture talent; we work to inspire real commitment to excellence and

an appreciation of multi dance styles. This end of year showcase concert is a celebration of the year’s work some of the girls who tutor, are off to university and other vocational training colleges. So, it’s such an important time for them. Some began here when they were tiny tots and now, they have been tutoring the young ones for their high school years.”

Lisa runs Enpointe Studio as a professional dance school – situated in the middle of Whitianga,

upstairs near Fagans – furniture and giftware store in Albert Street, Whitianga. The school offers ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and tap for all ages, shapes and sizes. The older ones help the younger ones learn. The ages of the dancers range from pre-school to mature adult dancers. Every dancer works hard. Lisa inspires her dancers and settles only for their best.

The whole community is invited to this performance – Milly and The Giant Peach. Two shows: Saturday 2.00pm and Sunday, 3.00pm in Whitianga Town Hall.
