The Whitianga Lions Club will be holding their second Queen’s Birthday Weekend Art Expo from Friday 3 to Monday, 6 June in the Whitianga Town Hall. Five hundred pieces of art created by more than 60 local artists – including paintings and drawings, sculptures, pottery, photography, mixed media, weaving, quilting, wooden art, glass art, and screen and canvas prints – will be for sale.
The expo will open on 3 June at 5:30pm with a free glass of wine or juice on arrival and some tasty nibbles. On 4 and 5 June, the public will be able to view and purchase the art on display from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The last opportunity to purchase something special will be on 6 June from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Raffle tickets will be available throughout the expo with “a secret option” to win some “special” items.
Funds raised through the expo, in the form of a commission on all sales paid to the Whitianga Lions, will be donated to the Mercury Bay Community Swimming Pool Trust. The trust is raising funds for a water heating system that will allow year-round access to the community pool at Mercury Bay Area School.”
“I am delighted that we can support local artists by providing them with an opportunity make extra sales, as well as supporting the Mercury Bay Community Swimming Pool Trust,” says Whitianga Lions member, Ian Robbie. “I would like to acknowledge and thank Ockham Residential, Whitianga Waterways, Richardson Real Estate, The Mercury Bay Informer, Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding, and Tis the Season whose sponsorship and support make it possible for us to hold the expo.”
Ian says the expo will cater for all tastes and budgets. “The price of the art varies from below $20 to almost $4,000,” he says. “There will be something for everyone.”
