Mercury Bay Pony Club Show Jumping Cup Day 2023

By Pauline Stewart.

The club’s annual Show Jumping Cup Day on Saturday 1 April 2023 was great fun for both members and non-members. It gave our young riders an opportunity to hone their show jumping skills without having to transport their horses for hours on winding and hilly roads. A huge thank you to our sponsors, Garth’s Garden & Landscaping, and Earnhill Farm, and our judge, Kalani Nicol. Kalani grew up in Whitianga and attended Mercury Bay Pony Club for many years. She now competes successfully at National level in show jumping. Kalani has built a super course and continues to inspire our young riders. The Club would also like to thank Pub Charity Ltd, via Smitty’s Sports Bar and Grill, for funding quality show jumping coaching this year. Our Chief Coach, Anne Nicol, contributed a great deal of her time and expertise. She was supported by an enthusiastic group of parents who helped out on the day. We are also very grateful to Summit Forests NZ for enabling us to have such a wonderful venue for our club activities.

Overall winners were:

Junior Show Jumping Cup – 1 Lucy Thackray (Possum Bourne the Second) .

Intermediate Show Jumping Cup – 1 Boh Boyd (Starlight Iron Knight), 2 Tahlia Osborne (Sweet Soul Kalani), 3 Lexi Ford (FE Goodness Gracious).

Senior Show Jumping Cup – 1 Ella Simpson (Pinto Dude), 2 Eden Boyd (Matrix Rain), 3 Ella Scott (PS Christmas Spirit).
