Great entertainment ahead

Rud Stewart

Rud Stewart is an internationally renowned artist whose performances pay tribute to the amazing legendary singer performer, Rod Stewart. Rud’s voice is almost identical to the voice of the man whom his show emulates. The Rud Stewart concert dance night at Mercury Bay Club this coming Sunday night is not to be missed. His show gets underway at 7:30pm.

Rud’s performance at the Mercury Bay Club is part of his 2023 world tour, having recently been in England, Sweden and Majorca, Spain. Rud is originally from Yorkshire, England, where he has been performing his tribute shows to Rod Stewart for the past 15 years.

He has thrilled audiences in eleven countries over the past decade with an extensive catalogue of Rod’s songs for every occasion. Rud has performed with, and for celebrities, and he is so good at what he does, that he was asked to perform at Rod Stewart’s birthday party in Los Angeles, and he did. Rud has often mistaken for Rod Stewart and is also a lifelong fan, and as he covers all of Rod’s hits from the 60’s through to his latest album, it seemed like the most natural consequence to perform for Rod Stewart himself.

Performing for Rod, singing at the Olympia football stadium, and performing at the Helsingborg Festival in Sweden are just some of the many highlights in Rud’s career.

On Sunday night, Rud will deliver in a powerful fashion such great songs as Rhythm of My Heart, I Am Sailing, and Maggie May. Tickets for this event cost $30 for non-members and $25 for members of the Mercury Bay Club. It will be an experience you won’t forget.

EggFest

EggFest, the rock ‘n’ roll event and dance party, is just around the corner. After a two-year hiatus, it will return to Eggsentric Café at Cooks Beach on Saturday, 5 February. Who will take the stage and bring locals a fun night? Let’s have a preview of the line-up.

TY SEGALL & FREEDOM BAND (USA)

Talented guitarist Ty Segall comes from California. He is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and record producer. He will deliver the live performance accompanied by the all-star Freedom Band: Mikal Cronin (bass), Charles Moothart (drums), Emmett Kelly (guitar), and Ben Boye (keys). Recent reviews of Ty’s music are glowing, testifying to his pulverising professionalism and electrifying presence.

Earth Tongue

After having toured Australia, the UK, and Europe, Earth Tongue is back in Aotearoa with international acclaim. Guitarist Gussie Larkin (Mermaidens) has become a master of the fuzz-smothered riff and along with Ezra Simons’ off-kilter drumming, they’ve been sending punters into transcendental states. Their songs are shrill and disorientating, but the reverb-washed textures and instantly-familiar hooks will wrap you in a warm, loving embrace. The one consistent thread is the thick and all-encompassing fuzz.

Dictaphone Blues

Nigh on 15 years old, Dictaphone Blues is a band that has seen a carousel of different faces play the songs of Edward Castelow and ride the aural horse to the mystic lake of din. With three critically acclaimed albums, an EP, countless shows across NZ and Australia and tour supports for Broken Social Scene, Johnny Marr and The Veils, the band has proved to be a stalwart in the indie scene.

Judah Kelley

Judah Kelley is a promising singer and songwriter from Ōtepoti. She has displayed her range of talent and diversity with just 3 singles. Combining her compelling vocal and creative song writing, Judah captivates the audience and gets them up moving. After performing solo for the last 5 years, she debuted her full band live performance this year at the Whammy Bar with Wiri Donna, and at The Hollywood Avondale with Harper Finn. The band is made up of predominantly female musicians.

Tempted? Don’t hesitate. This is an intimate show only for 300 people and sells out fast every year. Hurry up and book on the Banished Music website for a fun evening from 5 pm to midnight filled with music, dancing, food, and drinks. Banishedmusic.com

Four massive international artists – each a headlining act in their own right will be performing.

ZZ TOP, PAT BENATAR & NEIL GIRALDO, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and THE ANGELS.

The Informer wrote on the Angels in last week’s issue.

This week – ZZTOP: It’ll be 35 years since ZZ TOP played their epic New Zealand show, where they performed to a reported crowd of over 80,000 at Western Springs in 1987. These Texan Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s are synonymous with beards, hot rod cars and spinning guitars. ZZ Top are famous for their mix of rock, blues, and boogie, with hugely popular albums such as Eliminator and Afterburner, which between them spent over two years on the NZ Charts. As a touring entity, they’ve been without peer over the past five decades, having performed before millions of fans on four continents and have been the subject of their own Grammy-nominated documentary titled That Little Ol’ Band From Texas. As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers.

PAT BENATAR & NEIL GIRALDO are one of the most formidable power couples in rock history. With no less than 14 songs having reached the NZ Top 50 singles charts, and spanning a career of over 43 years. Pat Benatar’s staggering vocals, along with Neil Giraldo’s artistry as a guitarist, producer and songwriter have forged their unique sound. We welcome them after last performing at the Summer Concert Tour 10 years ago in 2013.
