Finals of Smitty’s annual Karaoke Talent Quest – this Thursday

By Michelle Rhodes.

Last Thursday night was the last evening of the semi – finals. This coming Thursday, 19 October is

the ‘Grand Final’, at Smittys Sports Bar and Grill in Albert Street, Whitianga.

Local “Ant Man” and his ‘crew’ of supporters are pictured here. Will he go through to the finals? He

has his day job sorted as one of the great team at PlaceMakers, so that’s good. The competition was quite fierce as very seasoned and polished performers – Stuart Pedley, Gabriel from Hula and Fabian from CFM – were on the stage. There are 10 finalists from three rounds. The prize money of $1700 is considerable.

These factors are what the judges have been taking into consideration – your technique, your stage presence, the audience response (you can bring your own crowd – Ant man did), costume presentation. It wasn’t mentioned on the judges’ sheet but we are sure ‘quality of voice’ and ‘diction’ will be up there in their markings.

The final is Thursday, 19 October from 7.30pm. Come early to get a seat and enjoy a great meal from the Smitty’s menu. It will be an exciting night.
