A Taste of Matarangi – great success

By Pauline Stewart”

Congratulations to Bronwyn Ririnui and her amazing committee and huge team of volunteers who brought over 2,000 visitors to the Village Green in Matarangi for the Taste of Matarangi festival last Saturday. Online and gate sales exceeded 2,000 and this did not include all of the stall holders, and volunteers assisting in every corner of the organisation.

The line up of professional performers of different genres of music was very popular and their performances filled the entire day. People came carrying their picnic chairs and with their group of friends or family, sat comfortably enjoying the beautiful day, the great music and regularly arose to sample some different food on offer at a myriad of stalls and a glass of the local wine or beer.

Bronwyn says, “The event is a miracle because it is organised totally by volunteers who really believe in helping their community. All are busy people already holding down jobs and caring for their families. We have excellent sponsors, and they are generous with time and kind. The amount of money raised is not yet available but it will be announced as soon as the details become available.

Just like Disneyland….

Disneyland has great security as you can see here and Disneyland has long queues as people wait for food or a ride or a treat. Everyone is happy in their queue because it keeps moving even if slowly, and they know when they get to the end of the queue, it is worth it . That was so true of the eighth year of Taste of Matarangi. It was a wonderful day in terms of the spirit of the occasion, the quality of the music and entertainment, the standard and variety of food, and of course, the weather. A few grey clouds offered a feeble threat, but a gentle temperature and no wind won the day. What topped it off was a big crowd of people – locals, Aucklanders, and holiday makers.

Warren Male was Compère and Coromandel CFM dad is sterling job of broadcasting the news and joy of what was Coromandel’s very successful festival to break the drought of events like this due to covid and the devastating storms and cyclones.

The informer called Bronwyn the morning after to see how things were and she was already at her own business, Holistic Health, bright and feeling complete that she and her committee can be assured that Tate of Matarangi 2023 was a job very well done.
