Auckland artist Brad Novak leads a double life. He’s found fame as a graphic artist, better known as New Blood Pop, while also carving out a distinguished career in the public health sector. Novak has exhibited his art in galleries in the US, Canada, the UK and New Zealand, and his work features in some notable private collections, including that of Quentin Tarantino. GENERAL: Monday, 25 July at a Punga Place address, a vehicle was broken into with various items taken. On the same day, a vehicle was broken into at Hot Water Beach with various property taken. Thursday, 28 July, a person claiming to be someone else attempted to uplift a courier parcel from Paper Plus. This person will be spoken to regarding this matter. Entries for the Whitianga Marathon are coming in at a great pace, with eight very lucky locals scheduled to have their entry fees refunded to them. “We will have 5km, 10km, half marathon and marathon distances available fr runners and walker,” says Nick Reader, the event organiser. Caleb, first at Pinnacle Boats

After five years, Caleb Ebsworth has just become Pinnacle Boats’ first, and Whitianga’s first, locally-trained, fully qualified, apprentice aluminium boat builder. “I just really like working with aluminium,” says Caleb. “Everything starts with a flat sheet of aluminium, and turns out like this,” he explains, looking with pride at the boats around the workshop. After not having been able to hold the ball for the last three years, due to COVID, senior students from Mercury Bay Area School attended their annual ball at the Flight Club ballroom on Saturday night.
